Meet the Consortium!

Time to meet the partners of FrontAg Nexus! For the project, 10 partners with multidisciplinary competence and resources from academia, industry and research communities have  joined forces in order to address challenges faced by communities in the Mediterranean Region.

The University of the Bundeswehr Munich, established 50 years ago, is a leading institution for security-related technology and societal research, fostering a vibrant and innovative research culture through interdisciplinary collaborations. With plenty of research opportunities and an advantageous location in a highly innovative German region, it provides optimal conditions for both national and international sustainable research.

Aquaponik Manufaktur (TASK 2.2 LEADER “LEVERAGE PROTOTYPES/PROOFS OF CONCEPT FOR FRONTIER AGRICULTURAL INNOVATIONS”)

Aquaponik Manufaktur GmbH is a versatile company, adept at planning, building, and maintaining aquaponics systems of various sizes, tailored to meet the unique needs of hobbyists and food producers alike. With an early investment in research and development, including sponsoring a PhD student, aquaponic manufaktur fostered a deep expertise in aquaponics, contributing to numerous scientific publications, and establishing a solid network of research partners and suppliers.

Foodscale Hub (FSH) (WP6 LEADER “COMMUNICATION, DISSEMINATION AND STRATEGIC STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT”) 

FSH is an impact-focused venture studio supporting Agri-FoodTech entrepreneurs throughout their journey across all aspects of the agrifood value chain. As an advocate of sustainable growth, Foodscale Hub innovatively markets and helps create healthier, environmentally friendly food products, and provides solutions for food brands aiming for sustainable growth and digital transformation.

Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (WP1 LEADER “CONCEPTUAL AND EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS”, TASK 2.3 LEADER “MONITORING WEFE NEXUS KPIS OF FRONTIER AGRICULTURAL INNOVATIONS IN DEMONSTRATION CASE SITES”)

Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, one of Israel’s premier research institutions, boasts around 20,000 students, 4,000 faculty members, and over 100,000 alumni contributing significantly to various sectors in Israel. It has a dedicated research campus at Sde Boker and houses numerous national and multi-disciplinary research institutes.

Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna, Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences (WP2 LEADER “MONITORING AND OPTIMIZING OUTCOMES OF FRONTIER AGRICULTURE THROUGH WEFE RESOURCE INDICATORS”, TASK 1.1 LEADER “SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW (SLR) OF FRONTIER AGRICULTURE SYSTEMS AND EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE IN THE MEDITERRANEAN REGION”)

Formed as a result of the Gelmini Reforms, the Department of Agri-Food Science and Technology at the University of Bologna is a unified entity encompassing all agricultural teaching and research activities, generating over twelve million Euros annually for research projects. Recognized as the Department of Excellence for 2018-2022 by MIUR, it’s notably contributed to the university’s ranking as the 48th in the “Agriculture & Forestry” sector of QS World University Ranking 2018.

National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) (WP3 LEADER “SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACTS OF THE NEXUS APPROACH EMERGING FROM FRONTIER AGRICULTURE”)

The center is a Center of Excellence in agricultural science, aiming for sustainable development by leveraging local and global agricultural research to increase plant and animal productivity. It promotes efficient and sustainable use of natural agricultural resources, aligning with the goals of agricultural development and ecological balance maintenance.

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (TASK 1.2 LEADER “MODELLING WEFE RESOURCE SENSITIVE SUPPLY AND VALUE CHAINS IN THE CONTEXT OF FRONTIER AGRICULTURE”, TASK 4.1 LEADER “IDENTIFICATION OF CONCERNS AND PERSPECTIVES OF STAKEHOLDERS REGARDING WEFE NEXUS POLICIES”, TASK 4.3 LEADER “POLICY INTERDEPENDENCY AND CAUSAL PATHWAY MAPPING TO IMPROVE ADAPTATION CAPACITY OF THE WEFE NEXUS”)

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is an institution focused on applied research and innovation, playing a crucial role in Africa’s economic and human development and consolidating Morocco’s leading position in these areas. More than a traditional academic establishment, UM6P is a hub of knowledge and experimentation, popularly known as a “School of Life”, dedicated to high-level education, research, and innovation, with an experimental learning-centric pedagogy, fostering curiosity and creativity among students, faculty, and partners.

ElBosten phytagri (TASK 1.3 LEADER “PROTOCOL OF PRACTICAL INFORMATION OF FRONTIER AGRICULTURAL INNOVATIONS”, TASK 2.1 LEADER “IDENTIFICATION AND STRATEGY BUILDING PHASE OF 10+ DEMONSTRATION CASES IN ITALY, ISRAEL, JORDAN, MOROCCO, TUNISIA, AND TURKEY”).

ElBosten Phytagri was founded in 2003, and provides its customers with various phytosanitary products and fertilization products. Their experience in this field has enabled them to develop a very wide range of agricultural products that comply with international standards.

Renewable Energy Association EUROSOLAR Turkey (WP4 LEADER “DEVELOPING CROSS-SECTORAL WEFE NEXUS POLICIES FOR ADAPTATION CAPACITY”, TASK 3.2 LEADER “STRATIFIED RANDOM SAMPLED SURVEY WITH REGARD TO WEFE NEXUS OUTCOMES OF FRONTIER AGRICULTURE”)

Independent of political parties, institutions, companies and interest groups, EUROSOLAR has been developing and stimulating political and economic action drafts and concepts for the introduction of renewable energies since 1988. This ranges from market introduction strategies to proposals for further research and development policies, from tax policy support to arms conversion with solar energy, from the contribution of solar energy for the Third World to agricultural, transport and construction policies.

Bodrum Municipality (TASK 4.2 LEADER “PROMOTE CROSS-SECTORAL POLICY DECISION MAKING AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT IN THE WEFE NEXUS”)

The Bodrum Municipality’s mission is to deliver proficient local government services with a warm, municipal spirit and efficient use of technology, while preserving the city’s historical, cultural, natural, and environmental values. Their main aim is to foster an atmosphere of love, respect, and freedom within the community.

This dynamic consortium of partners, each bringing a unique set of skills and perspectives, is ready to collaborate to tackle the challenges in the WEFE nexus.
