Agrivoltaic System Optimization for Sustainable Farming in Taşarası, Türkiye

Agrivoltaic systems (AgriPV) combine agricultural production with photovoltaic electricity generation on the same land, improving land-use efficiency while supporting sustainable food and energy systems. In Mediterranean regions where solar radiation levels are high and agricultural lands are under increasing pressure from climate change and land scarcity, AgriPV offers significant opportunities to improve resource efficiency within the Water–Energy–Food–Ecosystem (WEFE) nexus .

Agrivoltaic System Optimization for Sustainable Farming in Taşarası (Türkiye)

The FrontAg Nexus project demonstrates an optimized Agrivoltaic (AgriPV) system in Taşarası (Havran district, Türkiye) that harmonizes solar electricity generation with crop cultivation. The 14.04 kWp pilot system utilizes high-efficiency bifacial TOPCon PV modules elevated 3.5 meters above the ground. By arranging the modules in an east-west oriented (21° tilt), checkerboard layout, the system creates an optimal microclimate for shade-tolerant leafy crops (lettuce, spinach, arugula) growing directly beneath the panels.
