In Mediterranean regions, agricultural lands face increasing pressure from climate change, severe heat stress, and water scarcity. Simultaneously, there is a growing demand for renewable energy generation. However, conventional ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) power plants require large land areas, creating direct competition with agricultural land use. Farmers need innovative solutions to diversify their income and generate clean energy without sacrificing their crop yields or available farmland. The FrontAg Nexus project demonstrates an optimized Agrivoltaic (AgriPV) system in Taşarası (Havran district, Türkiye) that harmonizes solar electricity generation with crop cultivation. The 14.04 kWp pilot system utilizes high-efficiency bifacial TOPCon PV modules elevated 3.5 meters above the ground. By arranging the modules in an east-west oriented (21° tilt), checkerboard layout, the system creates an optimal microclimate for shade-tolerant leafy crops (lettuce, spinach, arugula) growing directly beneath the panels.
